Why stores are looking for an AffiliateWP alternative in 2026

AffiliateWP's reputation is well-earned and we're not going to pretend otherwise. The team behind it (Sandhills Development, also the EDD team) ships solid code, runs a competent support operation, and has a deep integrations catalogue. If you're already on AffiliateWP and happy, this comparison probably isn't for you. The stores moving across are the ones running into one or more of these patterns.

The add-on stack adds up fast

AffiliateWP's base licence is $299/yr for one site, $499/yr for unlimited sites, $599/yr for "Plus" (which adds priority support and a few extras). The base licence does not include: two-tier referrals (MLM add-on, around $199/yr), per-product commission rates (around $79/yr), bank-CSV payouts (around $59/yr), A/B email testing (no first-party add-on — third-party only), or admin impersonation (around $79/yr). A store that wants the full stack ends up at roughly $923/yr at the Personal tier or $1,223/yr at Plus. We don't quote prices we haven't verified — confirm on AffiliateWP's pricing page before you compare.

Asteris Affiliates's Starter licence is $149/yr for one site, includes every feature in that stack, and adds AI swipe-copy, cloud-assist fraud detection, Stripe Connect and a Surecart adapter on top.

Features AffiliateWP simply doesn't offer

Even with every paid add-on enabled, the AffiliateWP catalogue does not include AI-generated swipe copy, cross-store fraud signal sharing, Stripe Connect Express direct payouts at 0.25% fee, or a Surecart adapter. These aren't on a roadmap we can find — they're a non-starter unless something changes. If any of them matters to your program, you're shopping outside the AffiliateWP ecosystem regardless of price.

The Surecart customers have no real option

If your storefront is on Surecart instead of WooCommerce, AffiliateWP doesn't have a first-party adapter and there's no Surecart add-on in their catalogue. We built the Surecart adapter into core specifically because Surecart users had no working option until Asteris.

What you keep when you migrate from AffiliateWP

Migration is intentionally boring. Our step-by-step AffiliateWP migration guide covers the WP-CLI command that reads AffiliateWP's standard export and recreates affiliates, referrals, visits and payouts in Asteris's tables. The default rules:

• Affiliates: ID, email, username, payment_email, account_email, rate, rate_type, payment_method, status (active / inactive / pending), date_registered → all preserved.
• Referrals (commissions): visit ID, affiliate ID, reference (order ID), amount, currency, description, context (which integration), campaign, status, date → all preserved.
• Visits: affiliate ID, URL, referrer, campaign, IP, date → preserved up to 12 months back by default (configurable).
• Payouts: historical payout records preserved for affiliate-facing transparency.

Your existing affiliate referral URLs (?ref=123) keep working — Asteris registers a compatibility filter that re-attributes the legacy parameter to the corresponding Asteris affiliate ID, so links your affiliates have already shared continue to track. Full migration guide →

The honest case for staying on AffiliateWP

We'd rather you stay on AffiliateWP if you actually use one of its strengths. The ones we'd flag:

• You rely on a specific AffiliateWP-only integration — there are some membership and CRM integrations that AffiliateWP has and we don't (yet). Check our integrations docs against what you actually use before you commit.
• You're heavily invested in the AffiliateWP add-on stack already — if you've paid for the add-ons this year, the value reset isn't immediate.
